PTR Applications
A private landowner who wishes to undertake forestry operations on their land may apply to have the land declared a Private Timber Reserve under the provisions of the Forest Practices Act 1985. A Private Timber Reserve, once gazetted, attaches to the title of the property in perpetuity unless revoked at the request of the owner or, in certain circumstances, by the Forest Practices Authority.

PFT provides, on request to the public, technical and economic information about all aspects of growing, managing and harvesting trees. Here the focus is both commercial wood production and integration of trees into farms to increase farm production and provide environmental services.

Geographical Information
Private Forests Tasmania maintains a state-wide database on native forests and plantations on private land. This includes information about, ownership, location and nature of the forest enterprise and imagery of the private forest estate. This information supports property and fire management planning, forest valuation and forest harvest planning. Accurate historic (2005-2009) SPOT5 and LANDSAT imagery support property management planning and land use change analysis.
