PFT Welcomes David Monckton
David has recently joined us for twelve months to manage our Private Forest Investment Project. The project has been identified as a priority in PFT’s Corporate Plan to assist with engaging with and supporting farmers involved or interested in farm forestry. The primary objective of the project is to identify and develop a suite of practical financial mechanisms that could most cost effectively expand farm forestry in Tasmania, including by potentially matching corporate investment opportunities with potential private forest landowners.
In delivering this project David will be working closely with investors, growers and landholders and will play a major role in implementing PFT’s new farm forestry engagement plan. He will also be working closely with the N-NW Regional Forestry Hub as the project is highly relevant to the Hub’s “land access” theme.
David comes most recently from the University of Tasmania where he taught Horticultural Business and undertook research and supervision in Agribusiness. He has a PhD on the subject of water use efficiency in agriculture from the University of Queensland, and has a diverse background including geotechnical engineering, international consulting in agricultural economics and marketing. David also brings with him considerable experience in management and policy development from his time working in both the Queensland and Federal Governments.
David has a farming (including tree farming) background and has worked with and in the agricultural sector for much of his professional life. He moved to Tasmania from Queensland in 2016 with his wife, Katrina. David has two daughters, who both live on the mainland but happily visit Tasmania often.
